What is co-investment / shared assets?

Last updated About 2 months ago

Co-investment in Findex refers to assets that are owned, tracked, or managed by more than one user. This feature allows multiple individuals—such as family members, partners, co-founders, or investment groups—to view and track the same asset within their separate Findex accounts.

Shared assets ensure that each participant has access to consistent data, ownership details, and performance information, without needing to duplicate entries manually.

How Co-Investments Work in Findex

A co-investment is created when an asset is assigned to more than one Findex user. Once shared, the asset becomes visible in each participant’s portfolio, displaying:

  • The total value of the asset

  • Individual ownership percentages

  • Performance and valuation changes

  • Relevant documents (if attached)

  • Historical adjustments

Each user sees the asset reflected in their personal net worth according to their ownership share.

Types of Assets Commonly Shared

Co-investments can be applied to a range of assets, including:

  • Unlisted equity (e.g., private companies with multiple shareholders)

  • Real estate jointly owned by partners or family members

  • Investment accounts managed collectively

  • Collectibles or alternative assets with shared ownership

  • Debt or liabilities that involve multiple borrowers

Any asset that involves more than one legal owner can be shared for accurate representation.

Ownership Percentages

Each participant's share can be defined using ownership percentages. These percentages determine:

  • How much of the asset contributes to net worth

  • Distribution of gains or losses

  • Allocation within portfolio charts

  • Accuracy of performance calculations

Ownership values can be updated if circumstances change (e.g., additional contribution, buyout, inheritance).

What Co-Investment Does Not Do

To avoid misunderstanding, co-investment in Findex does not:

  • Allow users to perform transactions

  • Grant control over another user’s account

  • Synchronize connected bank accounts between users

  • Replace legal ownership documentation

  • Provide joint account access or fund management tools

The feature is strictly for tracking and visibility, not execution or custody.

Why Co-Investments Matter

Co-investments provide a more complete and realistic financial overview, especially for:

  • Families managing shared real estate or savings

  • Couples combining assets

  • Co-founders tracking their equity stakes

  • Investment clubs or groups

  • Individuals with joint liabilities

By ensuring that shared assets appear correctly in each user’s net worth, Findex helps maintain transparency and accuracy.

Future Availability

If co-investment features are not yet available in your account, they may be part of an upcoming release. Support for shared assets will expand gradually as Findex introduces more collaboration tools.
