How to set owner company
If you hold investments through a company — such as a holding company or an investment vehicle — Findex lets you set up an ownership hierarchy to reflect that structure. By assigning an owner company to your assets, you can organize your portfolio the way it actually works in practice, with parent-child relationships between entities.

What is an Owner Company?
An owner company is a parent entity that holds one or more assets in your portfolio. This is common for investors who:
Own a holding company that holds shares in other businesses.
Use an investment vehicle or fund structure.
Want to group assets under a specific legal entity for clarity.
Setting an owner company doesn't change your portfolio value or net worth calculations — it simply adds a layer of organization so you can see which entity owns what.

Setting Up an Owner Company
Navigate to Portfolio > Investments.
Click on the asset you want to assign to an owner company.
On the asset detail page, look for the Owner Company field.
Click Edit or the owner company selector.
Choose an existing company from the dropdown, or create a new one by entering the company name.
Click Save to apply the change.
The asset will now appear under the selected owner company in your portfolio structure.

Building a Portfolio Hierarchy
You can create multi-level structures by assigning assets to different owner companies. For example:
Holding Company A owns shares in Company X and Company Y.
Holding Company B owns real estate assets and a bond portfolio.
This parent-child relationship helps you visualize your portfolio structure at a glance, especially if you manage investments across multiple entities.

Changing or Removing an Owner Company
Open the asset you want to update.
Click the Owner Company field.
Select a different company, or clear the field to remove the owner company association.
Click Save.
The asset will be moved to the new owner or returned to your top-level portfolio if you removed the association.
Tips
Use meaningful names — Name your owner companies clearly (e.g., "Smith Holdings AB" rather than "Company 1") so your portfolio structure is easy to read.
It's purely organizational — Setting an owner company does not affect your financial calculations. Your net worth and portfolio value remain the same.
Great for complex portfolios — If you manage investments through multiple legal entities, this feature helps you keep everything organized without needing separate accounts.
You can restructure anytime — Owner company assignments can be changed or removed at any point, so feel free to adjust as your investment structure evolves.
